GCSE Applied ICT

This Applied GCSE ICT course was written to support students who are studying this course and submitting to EdExcel.

I have now taught three cohorts of this course and have achieved good results with mixed ability students. I use the materials here as my teaching tools and although they are not whizzy and interactive I think they cover the syllabus well and students have responded well to them. They are not designed to be used alone but as part of a taught course, however they do make an excellent resource for catching up students who have missed lessons or are trying to work from home.

The materials differ according to the task, in unit 1 materials guide the students through using the software to produce various documents for the "Billericay Arena". There are also materials to support revision and assist pupils with exam preparation - I would recommend these are used in conjunction with the EdExcel pre-release materials which I have found prepare my students well for their exam.

In unit 2 materials give guidance as to how to produce good coursework and headings and tips for what to include. We have chosen to do our case study on the London Eye and find they have excellent resources on their website to help with the coursework. A visit is also worthwhile if you are near enough to London. For systems projects I have given instructions for both a Database and a website - I found the website project to be more interesting for my pupils and their marks are reflecting their interest.

In unit 3 there are a range of informational materials and coursework guidance documents. I have used these to complement teaching and have added some of the tasks I have given in class too.

I think this course is now complete, tested and proof read but if you find any errors please let me know and I will correct them.
